Hotel Review: Tiberius Leonardo Club Hotel - Formally Tiberius Golden Tulip Club Hotel Israel

Leonardo hotel, Golden Tulip, Sheraton Plaza Hotel Tiberius Tiberius, Israel hotels All- incusive family hotels Tiberius Israel

The first thing you will notice about the Leonardo Club Tiberius Hotel is the hotel's identity crisis! On stationary, web sites, napkins and towels you will see the hotel name vary from Tiberius Sheraton, Fattal Hotel, Leonardo Club Tiberius, Golden Tulip and you may even get confused when looking for the hotel on line by seeing the Leonardo Plaza (as opposed to Club) Tiberius. To clear this name confusion up firstly there is a hotel a few minutes away called the Tiberius Leonardo Plaza Hotel, formerly the Tiberius Moriah Sheraton which is slightly better, and not an all-inclusive hotel. The Leonardo Plaza is also owned by Fattal.

The correct name of the hotel I am reviewing is The Tiberius Leonardo Club Hotel; it is owned by the Fattal hotel chain and was previously called the Golden Tulip Club Tiberius. I also remember the hotel being called the Jordan River a few years ago. There is also an identically named hotel in Eilat – The Leonardo Golden Tulip Eilat.

Perhaps the frequent name changing is a clue to the hotel's efforts to reinvent itself but these efforts have mostly been in vain.

Hotel Leonardo Club Tiberius Location

The one thing which is undeniably perfect about this Tiberius hotel is the location. The Leonardo Club Hotel is a few minutes walk from the Sea of Galilee and Tiberius's pedestrian street where a small market is put on mainly for the tourists. The center of town is easily accessible along with all the amenities that comes with a city center.

The Tiberius Leonardo Club Tiberius Food

The Leonardo Club Tiberius is an all-inclusive hotel where you get three meals a day, a mid-afternoon junk food meal next to the pool for the kids, afternoon coffee and cake and an endless supply of ice lollies and cold and hot drinks including beer. The food is not of the best quality but there is a wide range to choose from so even if it doesn't all appeal to you you won't go hungry. There are plenty of salads and fresh vegetables. The hotel food is kosher.

Tiberius Leonardo Club Service and Staff

The hotel is run like a well oiled machine with the uniformed staff getting on with their own duties, but there didn't seem to be any personal touch or one on one interaction with hotel guests. No one came up and asked if everything was ok, and even on the few occasions when I asked for assistance with the smallest thing, like getting a spare cup or teaspoon in the dining room, I was met with a "deer caught in the headlights" stare. The staff seems to know their duties in running the hotel but not in meeting the guest's needs or requests.

Tiberius Leonardo Club Hotel Building, Rooms, Facilities and Cleanliness

The hotel building is old and in need of another revamp. Although the public areas are pleasant at a glance, don't look too closely. With the constant traffic of Israeli families with kids dribbling ice lollies across the floors it can become quite sticky. Like wise the bedrooms are acceptable  and of a good size but nothing special. The bathroom curtain in our hotel room was filthy and the bathroom fixtures old with black mold in some places. If you are interested in having a hotel room with a view of the Sea of Galilee, make sure you have a room on one of the upper floors as our room was also facing the sea but we only got to see the roof of the ground floor from our window. There are small balconies so ask about safety issues if you are traveling with kids. For families there are rooms with adjoining doors.

The Tiberius Leonardo Club has a children's play area with a few arcade games and staff who entertain the kids. There is also a fitness center and spa providing massages and beauty treatments at a price. Although the rooms do not come with a fridge one can be rented for 50 shekels a night.

The Tiberius Leonardo Club Hotel Tiberius Entertainment and Leisure

The Leonardo Tiberius has a good swimming pool with seating and umbrellas along the pool side. There is also a bar on the pool side for cold and hot drinks as well as ice lollies and beer. If you are with kids and intend spending a lot of time in the hotel then the Leonardo Club Hotel Tiberius is a good choice.

The Leonardo Club Tiberius has an entertainment crew which operates during the Israeli holidays. The crew entertains next to the pool with games and singing where the hotel guests can participate. The entertainment continues on weekends which makes music unavoidable for guests who are religious Jews and don't want to be in the facinity of music and microphones. There is also entertainment in the evening for both adults and kids. At breakfast the entertainment crew wanders around the dinning hall in costume entertaining the kids.

The Tiberius Leonardo Club Guests

Being an all-inclusive hotel the Tiberius Leonardo Club attracts large families so the hotel is always buzzing, this also explains the sticky floors and the staff's difficulty in keeping up with the cleaning. I do not recommend visiting the Leonardo Club Tiberius in the Israel school holidays, it is incredibly crowded and the pool is not built for the number of Israeli holiday makers. During the off season the Leonardo Tiberius could be a pleasant experience, with the staff being less pressured and the public areas less crowded.

For religious guests there is a Shabbat elevator, kosher food and a synagogue, but if you don't want to hear music on Shabbat try a different hotel as the hotel entertainment on Friday night and Saturday are unavoidable. The lower floors are a little more expensive on Shabbat due to the high demand by religious guests.

The Tiberius Leonardo Club Hotel Best Prices

On the Leonardo Hotels Website two nights on a weekend for a couple in one room costs $520, on the Israeli holiday booking site Daka90 the same nights will cost you 1691 shekels.

The price is high in terms of the hotel quality but when you take into account the location and the all-inclusive food it can be to your advantage if traveling with kids. If you are going to be in and out of the hotel going on tours of the Galilee then choose a non-all-inclusive hotel for a lot less money.
