Chankanaab National Park for Swimming with Dolphins in Cozumel, Mexico
Recently my husband and I took our children on a Carnival Cruise. While on the trip, we made a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. In the past, my husband and I used Dolphinaris for swimming with dolphins, but we made the choice this time to try out Chankanaab National Park instead. This was a great decision and we had one of the best times of our life!
We took our 9 year old and 4 year old daughters along for the trip. They were not big enough to swim on the dolphins back so we scheduled a dolphin experience. We booked it through the Carnival ship and didn't have to do anything. When we showed up in Cozumel, we got off the ship and met our tour guide. They helped us get into the taxis and took us on a short drive of about 10 minutes to the Chankanaab National Park. It was an easy trip.
When we got to the park, it looked gorgeous. They lined us up into groups for the dolphin experience and we got started right away. They put us all in life jackets and gave us lockers to put our stuff in while we were there. They then walked us down to the area where our dolphins were located.
One thing I loved about this place was the dolphins are in actual ocean water. It is all sectioned off for safety, but small fish are swimming in the water with them and can come in and out. The dolphins stay in the area, but they are right by their natural habitat.
We were amazed that they let you take your own camera down there for pictures. The place we visited in the past wanted to sell you expensive pictures, but here you could take your own. We were able to get a ton of great shots with the dolphins. They also take pictures of you that you can purchase if you are interested.
We got to kiss, hug, and shake the hands of the dolphins. It was an amazing experience. They made sure that everyone got a chance to do it. The dolphins splashed us playing a game and swam by several times where we were able to pet them. It was a ton of fun!
Chankanaab National Park also had several other things to do. We ate lunch there, snorkeled, and swam in the ocean. There were a lot of things you could do for a small extra charge. They even had a pool to swim in for free! They also had a free Sea Lion show, but we never had a chance to see it. After we were done at the park, the taxis took us back to the ship and we even had a little bit of time to shop.
I highly recommend Chankanaab National Park to anyone looking for a great time in Cozumel, Mexico. We will be visiting it again the next time we are there. Check it out!
